When you start RRAS, the service does NOT start and the System event log contains:

Event Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7024
Description: The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 505.

You may also receive any of the following errors:

An error occurred while trying to make a connection to the data store.

Routing and Remote Access cannot verify that the default Remote Access Policy matches the settings for the server.
The following error occurred: Error in the DLL (800401f9).

An error occurred while trying to start the Routing and Remote Access service on <ServerName>.

These errors can be caused by third-party software or by incorrectly registered library files.

To resolve the problem:

1. Make sure that the Administrators group has Full Control permissions on the following folder and files, if they exist:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Ias
%SystemRoot%\System32\Ias\Ias.mdb
%SystemRoot%\System32\Ias\Dnary.mdb

NOTE: The Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to object check box on the above objects should be cleared.

%SystemRoot%\Temp

2. Open a CMD prompt.

3. Type cd /d "%CommonProgramFiles%\System\Ole DB" and press Enter.

4. type regsvr32 oledb32.dll and press Enter. Press OK to acknowledge success.

5. type regsvr32 oledb32r.dll and press Enter. Press OK to acknowledge success.

6. Close the CMD Window.
