If you use either of the following methods, on your Windows 2000 computer, to view the list of shares hosted by a Windows 98 computer, you experience up to a 30 second delay:

1. Start / Run / \\<Computer Name> / OK.

2. Right-click My Network Places, press Search for Computers, type the computer name, and press Search Now.

The delay is a result of Windows 2000 checking to determine if Scheduled Tasks are enabled on the Windows 98 computer.

If you don't need to remotely view scheduled tasks, you can eliminate the checking:

1. Use Regedt32 to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace.

2. Expand the NameSpace sub-key and select the \{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF\} sub-key.

3. On the Registry menu, press Save Key. Name the output ScheduledTasks and Save the file, in case you wish to restore the checking functionality.

4. Delete the \{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF\} sub-key.

NOTE: There is no need to restart your computer, as the deletion takes effect immediately.
