Netscape Communications reported a $43.8 million loss today for its second fiscal quarter. Netscape president and CEO Jim Barksdale announced a management reorganization that will, among other things, consolidate product development under senior vice president Mark Andreessen. The loss was due to a $52.6 million charge for research and development related to recent company acquisitions.
With the reorganization, Barksdale has created an "executive committee" layer that will report to him directly and to coordinate the activities of the various senior vice presidents. Previously, all ten VPs reported directly to Barksdale. Now, only three people will do so.
"This change is designed to allow us to make better decisions more quickly," Barksdale said
