One of my company's mobile users recently upgraded his laptop from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional. Autologon is set up on the user's machine and automatically logs on to the preset domain, with no option to change to another domain before the user logs on. However, the user needs to be able to change domains depending on which office location he's in. How can we turn off the Autologon feature?

Open a registry editor and look under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon subkey. The subkey will contain at least two values: DefaultDomainName and DefaultUserName. If the subkey contains the value DefaultPassword, delete that value. Also delete AutoAdminLogon if that value is present. Removing these two keys should turn off Autologon.
