OSs That Convert From Physical to Virtual Using System Center 2012

Q: What OSs can be converted from physical servers to virtual machines using System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012?

A: The complete list of supported OSs that can be converted from a physical server to a virtual machine (VM) is documented at "P2V Prerequisites."  However, at a high level the supported OSs are (32-bit and 64-bit):

  • Windows XP SP3 and later
  • Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later
  • Windows Vista SP1 and later
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2

You might also look at "The Path From a Physical to Virtual World" and also "Q: Is there an easy way to convert a physical disk or system to a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD)?"
