Best Change and Configuration Management Tool

Best Change and Configuration Management Tool. For the second year, Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 takes the award for Best Change and Configuration Management Tool. SMS 2003 makes it easy to deploy applications because it identifies a deployment group's existing hardware and applications—including version information—as well as each system's current installed service packs and hotfixes. You can target machines and users for software distribution according to a variety of properties, including network and hardware configuration, AD organizational unit (OU), and software installation status. When you need to make changes to previously deployed packages, only the source changes are propagated between the SMS 2003 site servers and the distribution points. SMS 2003 also delivers asset management capability, including usage and inventory monitoring, as well as Web-enabled reporting and full-capability security patch management.
