On Tuesday, Microsoft shut down its Xbox Live online service for the day to upgrade the service with some new features. The shutdown was a surprise to me because I was planning to kick Nazi butt all day as usual, via Call of Duty 2, but was denied. A little digging revealed that Microsoft had, in fact, planned the outage well in advance. But I'm curious why the company didn't go out of its way to promote the shutdown. You'd think Microsoft would have at least sent a message to all Xbox Live subscribers or something. Phooey
