Thomson announced the Cobra platform, a video-delivery platform that uses advanced video-compression technologies to send home-entertainment services over existing broadband connections such as DSL. The platform, which has an Intel–based processor and chipset, will support current and next-generation video-compression technologies, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-4 Part 10, and Windows Media 9 Series. The platform lets the operator and viewer connect directly, thereby enabling interactive transactions, such as instant Video on Demand (VoD), e-commerce, and online gaming. The Cobra platform permits a variety of product configurations and supports a range of set-top boxes. For more information about the Cobra platform, contact Thomson on the Web.
