When you print a document that contains fonts that are not installed on your Windows XP computer, or if the Windows XP computer has a different version of the font than is installed on the print server, the spool file may grow to tens of megabytes.

When a font version is not present, Windows XP searches for the best match among the install fonts. It then creates a temporary font which it sends to the printer,  composed of a base font and several linked fonts, which may be tens of megabytes in size.

If this behavior cannot be mitigated by equalizing the installed fonts:

1. Start / Printers and Faxes.

2. Right-click the affected printer and press Properties.

3. Select the Advanced tab.

4. Clear the Enable advanced printing features box.

5. Press Apply and OK.
