If you remove the Client for Microsoft Networks component and restart your computer, you may receive the following when you start BITS:
System error 1075 has occurred.
The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
BITS is dependent on the LanmanWorkstation service in Windows 2000 SP3 and SP4, and in Windows XP SP1. If the LanmanWorkstation service is removed, BITS will fail to start.
To resolve the problem, either install the Client for Microsoft Networks network component, or remove the BITS dependency on the LanmanWorkstation service.
Install the Client for Microsoft Networks network component:1. Open the properties of your network connection.
2. Press the Install button.
3. Select Client and press Add.
4. Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks network is checked on the General tab.
5. Close the dialog box.
Remove the BITS dependency on the LanmanWorkstation service:1. Logon with administrative privileges.
2. Do either of the following:
A. Use the Registry Editor to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS.
B. Double-click the DependOnService Value Name, a REG_MULTI_SZ data type, and click in the Multi-String Editor to de-select all items.
C. Remove the LanmanWorkstation line.
D. Press OK.
A. At a CMD prompt, type sc qc bits to list all BITS dependencies.
B. For Windows XP, RpcSs is probably listed. If LanmanWorkstation is also listed, type sc config bits depend= RpcSs to remove the LanmanWorkstation dependency. For Windows 2000, RpcSs, Sens, and WMI are probably listed. If LanmanWorkstation is also listed, type sc config bits depend= RpcSs/Sens/WMI to remove the LanmanWorkstation dependency.
