When the Windows 2000 RRAS server is a member of a Windows 2000 domain, you receive:

Error 930: The authentication server did not respond to authentication requests in a timely fashion.

The RRAS server may record the following events in its' Application event log:

This behavior will occur if the account has permissions to read, but NOT write, the Active Directory directory service record.

To fix the problem:

01. Log onto a Windows 2000 domain controller.

02. Open the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

03. Expand your domain.

04. Right-click Domain Controllers and press Properties.

05. Select the Group Policy tab.

06. Select the Default Domain Controllers Policy and press Edit.

07. Navigate through Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignment.

08. Double-click Access this computer from the network.

09. If the Administrators, Authenticated Users and Everyone groups are not assigned this right, add the missing groups:

        A. Press Add.

        B. Select the group you want to add and press OK and OK.
