The Server Clustering feature defines a maximum number of supported server, called nodes.

You should only run mixed operating systems in a cluster during a rolling upgrade.

You should never run a mixed cluster where the nodes are more than one operating system apart. This means that Windows NT 4.0 with Windows Server 2003 is NOT supported.

In a mixed cluster, the maximum number of supported nodes is based upon the most restrictive node.

The following is the maximum number of support nodes, by operating system and shared disk configuration:

Operating system Number of nodes Storage

Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition 1-2 SCSI or Fibre

Windows 2000 Advanced Server 1-2 SCSI or Fibre

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server 1-2 SCSI or Fibre
