When you try to use Task Manager to End Process, you receive:

The operation could not be completed. Access is denied.

Even though you are an Administrator, it is still not possible to end a process that was started in a different security context, such as a service.

To work around this feature of all versions of Windows NT 4.0 or greater, you must be granted the right to Debug Programs, under Local Policy / User Rights Assignment, and you must use Kill.exe.

NOTE: You can add users and groups by double-clicking Debug Programs and pressing Add.

NOTE: See tip 2184 ยป Windows 2000 Group Policy refresh.
