When you add, change, or delete Windows 2000 components, you do NOT have to reapply the latest service pack.

When you first applied the service pack, the Update.exe program performed the following:

1. The Layout.inf file was updated with the additional source location. This is also located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\ServicePackSourcePath and would normally default to %SystemRoot%\ServicePackFiles (c:\winnt\ServicePackFiles), but it could be a network share.

2. The Drvindex.inf was updated to point to any additional driver cab files, such as SP1.Cab, and the driver cabs were added to the %systemroot%\driver cache\i386 folder.

3. A new SPx.cat, which replaces any previous hotfix SPx.cat, is installed in the %systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE\} folder.

4. All hotfixes prior to the service pack were updated with the service pack files. The post service pack files remain in place and do NOT have to be reapplied.
