If you have J50.log and/or J50.chk files in other than the %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS folder, WINS may not start.

- If WINS is started, Stop it.

- Move these files from their present location to the %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS folder.

- Run the Backup Database function in WINS Manager.

- Compact the WINS database using tip 179. Note that you must switch to the %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS folder.

- Using WINS Manager, check the Logging Enabled box on the Advanced tab of Server / Configuration.

- Start the WINS service.
