Appro recently helped the Renault Formula One racing team go greener and go faster when it built and installed its Xtreme-X Supercomputer—a green high-performance computing (HPC) solution for large enterprises—in Renault F1's Computational Aerodynamics Research Centre in England. Now Appro is helping small-to-midsized businesses (SMBs) become greener and stay more competitive with its new GreenBlade Series blade solution.

Based on AMD's Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor, the GreenBlade solution doubles the density of a 1U server. It supports up to 10 dual-processor server blades with up to 80 processing cores, offering a variety of blade configuration options. GreenBlade features up to 64GB of memory and 1TB of storage per compute blade and up to four 1625W high-efficiency power supplies per system. Because of its high-efficiency power supplies and energy-efficient modular architecture, the GreenBlade solution consumes less power than 1U servers, reducing energy bills.
GreenBlade is part of Appro's Go-Green initiative to address HPC environmental challenges. Also as part of that initiative, Appro will release single and dual storage blades sometime in second quarter 2009.
