When you print handouts, the outline, or notes, PowerPoint uses the handout master or notes master to determine the formatting of the printed page. As with the slide master, you can modify the handout or notes master to change the appearance, size, and positioning of elements on the page, and you can create headers and footers with document identifying information such as the date and page number.

The handout master manages the layout of handouts (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 per page) and of the outline.

To modify the handout master:

  • Choose View → Master ? Handout Master.
  • Use buttons on the Handout Master toolbar to switch between the masters for each layout of handouts (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 9 per page) and of the outline.
