If you want a solid color background, you should apply or modify a color scheme to achieve it.

To apply a color scheme:

  1. Turn on the Slide Design - Color Schemes task pane.
    • Click the Design button in the Formatting toolbar, then click the Color Schemes link in the Slide Design task pane.
  2. Select a color scheme that contains the right colors for your slide or master. Click the drop-down arrow on that color scheme.
  3. Choose an appropriate command.

If you are using a slide view, the following commands will appear:

    • Apply to Selected Slides. The color scheme will be applied to the current slide or all slides selected in the Slides pane or Slide Sorter view.
    • Apply to All Slides. The color scheme will be applied to all masters and to all slides in the presentation.
    • Apply to Master (appears if your presentation has multiple masters). The color scheme will be applied to the master on which the selected slides are based, and to all slides based on those masters.

If you are using a master view, the following commands will appear:

    • Apply to Master. The color scheme will be applied to the selected masters and to all slides based on those masters. Any slide that has had a color scheme applied directly to the slide will not be changed.
    • Apply to All Masters. The color scheme will be applied to all masters and to all slides based on those masters. Any slide that has had a color scheme applied directly to the slide will not be changed.

To modify a color scheme or create a new color scheme:

  1. Turn on the Slide Design - Color Schemes task pane.
  2. Click the Edit Color Schemes link at the bottom of the task pane.
  3. Click the Custom tab.
  4. Select the Background color and click Change Color.
  5. Click Apply to apply the color scheme to the currently selected master or slide.
When you click Apply or Add as Standard Scheme, the modified scheme becomes available as a standard scheme.

After you have applied or modified the color scheme, the slide should have your desired solid color background. If it does not, check the following:

  • Does the slide have a color scheme applied directly to it that is overriding the scheme from the master?
  • Does the slide have a background fill configured that is overriding the background color? Choose Format → Background and make sure that Automatic or the first color in the first row are selected. Details are in the next section.
