The Windows 2000 connections consist of entries of not only remote connections such as to your ISP, but also your Local Area Connection and these are contained under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\GUID\Connection registry key which GUID is the Globally Unique IDentifier of the connection.

Its just interesting to know as if you have a stray connection which gets corrupted maybe as you remove the network card you can manually remove by editing the registry.
