Netscape Communications has overhauled its Internet server configurations and pricing to more effectively compete with rival Microsoft. SuiteSpot 3.1 will ship in two versions, Standard and Professional, instead of the single version previously offered. Client licenses will also be lowered so that customers can purchase smaller (and more cost-effective) packages.

Formerly hobbled by a bizarre pricing scheme, the new SuiteSpot servers will also be sold under a simple pricing schedule that is consistent with Microsoft's pricing structure.

SuiteSpot 3.1 will be available August 1st. The Standard Edition includes Enterprise Server Pro, the Netshare management console, Calendar Server 3.0, Messaging Server, Collabra Server, and Directory Server. The cost is $130 per client in 100-client bundles, or $79 per client in 5000-client bundles.

The Professional Edition includes all of the software from the Standard Edition plus Mission Control (administration), Proxy Server, Certificate Server, and Compass Server (newsgroup tracking). The cost for the Professional Edition is $179 per client in 100-client bundles, or $109 per client in 5000-client bundles
