Netscape Communications will post a new version of its Communicator suite, version 4.04, this week to its Web site. Communicator 4.04 adds U.S. government encryption support and America Online's Instant Messenger to the already full-featured suite.

Announced a month ago, the deal with America Online gives Internet users the ability to reach AOL users in real time. AOL has used a "Buddy List" message system for some time, but it only worked for people using the AOL online service. The feature allows users to communicate, live, in a chat-like environment.

The new Communicator also adds support for Fortezza II, a new security technology based on the U.S. government encryption standard.

Other new features include a faster Java interface and browser compatibility with the Novell Client 32 software. Netscape says the new software will be available sometime on Thursday, but it wasn't up as this issue of WinInfo was written
