Microsoft Corporation has released its new Load Balancing Services (WLBS), a free add-in for Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition that supports TCP/IP load balancing across up-to 32 NT machines. This is a pretty serious upgrade for Windows NT, and it moves the OS up a notch in scalability (the jury is still out on reliability). WLBS is based on technology developed at Valence Research and it compliments Microsoft Cluster Service by extended its fail-over reach 16-fold.
