In an attempt to get developers on the CE 2.0 bandwagon, Microsoft is providing free beta downloads of toolkits for Visual Basic 5.0, Visual C++ 5.0, and Visual J++ 1.1. These kits are add-ins to the respective development tools that allow developers to target Windows CE 2.0. At the time of this writing, the toolkits were not yet available, though they will be soon. Check the Windows CE Toolkit page for details.
Microsoft also announced an embedded toolkit for Visual C++, an add-in to Microsoft Visual C++ 5.0 designed to make it easy for OEMs and embedded developers to build new products for Windows CE 2.0. The beta release of this toolkit costs $15. You can order it now from the Windows CE Embedded Toolkit page.
The final release of these tools is expected in the first quarter of 1998.
