MOTOACTIV Fitness Tracker Won't Sync to Windows via USB?

Q: Why doesn't the sync software start when I connect my MOTOACTIV fitness tracker device to my Windows machine via USB?

A: The MOTOACTIV device from Motorola is a fitness tracker and MP3 player. I've seen the sync problem occur on numerous machines, and the cause is always connecting the device via a USB 3 port. Connect to a USB 2 port instead, and everything seems to work fine.
