Online superstore Amazon.com got caught with its virtual pants down this week when the retailer suddenly and inexplicably went dark, preventing millions of customers from completing orders, many of which were likely intended as Christmas gifts. To date, the company hasn't explained its outage, other than to say, "These are complex systems that have problems sometimes." Hey, that sounds professional. I guess we're in an era now in which "the computer has problems" is just an excuse we should swallow without question. But seriously, isn't Amazon.com specifically designed to handle the holiday season
