System Center Configuration Manager for Windows 8 and Windows 2012

Q: Which versions of System Center Configuration Manager support Windows 8 and Windows 2012?

A: System Center 2012 SP1 Configuration Manager and System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 (including R2 and R3) add support for Windows 8.

Although Configuration Manager in System Center 2012 can deploy Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, Configuration Manager 2007 can't deploy the OSs in a supported manner, but can patch and maintain them, including handling endpoint protection.

Microsoft has a more detailed blog post about System Center support for Windows 8 and Server 2012. You might also take a look at the FAQ "What are the major new features in System Center 2012 SP1?" and "Q: How do I upgrade System Center Virtual Machine Manager and App Controller 2012 to SP1?"
