I recently came across SSHFS, which is a tool based on SSH that lets you locally mount remote file Linux systems. After installing SSHFS on Linux (which also requires the installation of FUSE) you can then use an SSH client to connect and mount a remote file system.

Unfortunately, as far as I know there's no port of FUSE for Windows yet, so you won't be able to run SSHFS on a Windows platform. But it does come in real handy for mounting Linux file systems on other Linux file systems when you don't want to use (or can't use) NFS or Samba.
