Forefront Client Beta Available; New Forefront Server Products Coming Soon

Microsoft released the Forefront Client Security public beta yesterday. The product is billed as "unified protection" against viruses, spam, and other threats. It uses anti-malware technologies also found in other Microsoft tools such as Windows Live OneCare and Windows Defender. The Forefront Client Security Management Server pushes protection policies to clients by using Active Directory (AD) or other deployment mechanisms. Updates to the product come from Microsoft Updates or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). The product is targeted for release in second quarter 2007. For more information or to download the beta, go to http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/clientsecurity/default.mspx.

Microsoft also announced that Forefront Security for Exchange Server and Forefront Security for SharePoint will be available in December. These products are designed for Exchange Server 2007 and 2007 versions of SharePoint Products and Technologies, respectively. Based on the Sybari Antigen products that Microsoft acquired, the products include multiple scan engines to protect against the latest malware, spam, inappropriate content, and unwanted files.
