A. The boot.wim file on the Windows Vista media contains an earlier version of both the Longhorn code and an earlier version of the Windows Deployment agent. Using the Windows 2008 version of boot.wim, you’ll experience the following improvements in deployment experience:
- Multicast support from a Windows 2008 WDS server
- x64 EFI boot support
- Enhanced TFTP performance
- Ability to deploy a 64-bit OS from 32-bit boot.wim Considering that there’s no downside, you should switch the boot.wim file you’re using to the Windows 2008 version as soon as possible.
