Novell chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt, addressing the press after his keynote address at the Java Internet Business Expo, announced that "Novell is not for sale," but he then qualified the remark by adding he was "not allowed" to comment on rumors.
Schmidt's keynote was full of pro-Java rhetoric, including his assertion that truly thin clients--apparently based on Java--are only a matter of time.
"It's not a question of if there'll be a thin client, it's a question of which one," he said.
Schmidt cautioned the crowd that Java is still years away from fulfilling its promises of platform independent relevance. For this to happen, Java must be as fast, secure, and scalable as C and C++, he said
