Like Windows and Office before it, Internet Explorer 4.0 will be bundled with new computer systems after it is released late this month. Microsoft announced today that more than 50 PC manufacturers have agreed to bundle Internet Explorer 4.0 with their systems. The companies will also create IE 4.0 Channels for their customers that will provide support and help desk information.

IE 4 director of marketing Yusuf Mehdi said that while none of these companies has specifically excluded Netscape, the development of IE 4.0 custom Channels suggests a commitment to Microsoft Internet technologies.

Manufacturers intending to bundle IE 4.0 include Compaq Computer Corp., Dell Computer Corp., Digital Equipment Corp., Gateway 2000 Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), Packard Bell NEC Inc., Sony Corp. Toshiba America Inc., and many more.
