A: If you are using a certificate that uses the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), and you updated the Service Manager portal to use a FQDN instead of NetBIOS short name, everything will work until you try to select a knowledge base article.

You will then see a crash, which the screen shows below, which relates to the certificate being for a FQDN but the site is using the NetBIOS name.

To resolve, open the web.config file on the web portal server, found in folder C:\inetpub\wwwroot\System Center Service Manager Portal\ContentHost. Find your server name, replace it with the FQDN of the server, and save the configuration. Below you can see my example using my server's FQDN:

 
 

Now launch IIS Manager and recycle the application pool for the Service Manager Portal. The change should take effect and knowledge base articles can be opened (see screen shot below).
