Per a report yesterday from an attendee of SIFMA Tech 2013 (where Microsoft is a Titanium sponsor), Microsoft is giving away Microsoft Surface RT's to attendees.  This is just after the huge Crazy Eddie sale at TechEd 2013 North America, the announcement of the same deal coming to TechEd Europe 2013, 10,000 of them being given away at ISTE in San Antonio, and a pending deal with special pricing for the education sector.

Per the attendee, right after check-in, he noticed a postcard in the handout materials that directed him to the Microsoft Surface booth in the event's Expo. Once he arrived, he and his coworkers were each handed their very own free Surface RT devices. The individual had just purchased a $99 Surface RT at TechEd 2013 North America.

So…it seems Microsoft is now dumping the Surface RT units to clear the shelves for the Surface 2. Reported in various places yesterday (Bloomberg article), Microsoft has tapped Qualcomm for their Snapdragon processors to provide processing power for the second generation of Surface RT devices. The Surface 2 is due to release sometime this year.

Keep your eyes peeled. It'll be interesting to see where free Surface RT devices show up unexpectedly. You never know when you'll be handed a free one, but let me know if you do.
