JSI Tip 6253. Internet Explorer on Windows XP reports 'The following application has encountered a problem and needs to close. application name: iexplore.exe app version: 6.0.2600.0 mod name: msctf.dll version 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 0001593f'?

When you use Internet Explorer on Windows XP, you receive:

The following application has encountered a problem and needs to close. application name: iexplore.exe app version: 6.0.2600.0 mod name: msctf.dll version 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 0001593f.

If Speech Recognition is turned on but not properly configured, you will receive this message.

To workaround this behavior:

1. Control Panel / Regional and Language Options.

2. Select the Languages tab.

3. Press Details.

4. Select Speech Recognition and press Remove.

5. Press OK.

NOTE: See HOW TO: Turn Off the Speech Recognition and Handwriting Recognition.
