What you will learn:
Creating Custom Field Types and Controls for SharePoint Sites
SharePoint ships with a handful of field types that can be used when creating new columns in lists, site columns and content types. While these meet the majority of business requirements most of the time, sometimes requirements dictate a more specialized approach. For these situations developers are free to create custom field types as well as custom field controls to provide a customized display and editing experience. This allows adding specialized validation logic and even custom objects representing the values defined by the field types. Come see how you can create custom field controls that leverage the out-of-the-box field types. Taking it even further you'll see how to create a custom field type with a custom control and value type as well as adding a specialized design time rendering in tools such as SharePoint Designer.
Creating & Debugging Custom Timer Jobs in Windows SharePoint Services
SharePoint introduced the concept of timer jobs, or scheduled services, that run within the SharePoint platform in WSS v3. These timer jobs are used by SharePoint for numerous things such as cleaning up old sites (aka: dead Web cleanup), sending user created alerts and disk quota warning notifications. Developers can also create their own timer jobs that run on a configurable schedule and within the specified scope. Come learn how you can create custom timer jobs as well as the various deployment/installation options. You'll also see how to create a compelling administration interface for managing the timer job and configuration data the job needs in order to function.
Leveraging the Content Query Web Part to its Full Potential
The content query Web Part (CQWP) included in MOSS 2007 Publishing sites is by far one of the most powerful and flexible Web Parts available to site owners and developers. Out-of-the-box (OOTB), you can configure the CQWP to do quite a few things using the familiar Web Part customization interface. However developers can go much further by configuring the Web Part’s query, additional filtering options and customizing the styling/rendering of the result set. In addition you’ll learn how to package up the customizations you make in a reusable and portable fashion as well as implementing a dynamic filtering capability.
