Q. Will Hyper-V 1.0 support Live Migration?

A. Although Hyper-V 1.0 supports Quick Migration, the ability to perform a live migration is not yet supported. Live Migration is the process that allows a VM to be moved between nodes in a cluster with minimal, sub-second downtime and is expected in the next version of Hyper-V. Live Migration essentially works by pumping the memory of the VM to the target node and then once the pump of the memory over the network is complete, switching over the running of the VM to the new target node. There is a small, sub-second pause in service, which is the time needed to perform the actual switch of ownership and pumping over the delta memory changes between the two cluster nodes.
