Q. How do I configure exceptions in data execution prevention (DEP)?

A. In Microsoft Vista, open the Control Panel System applet. Next, open Advanced System Settings. In the Performance section, click Settings. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab. If your computer is configured in Optin or Optout mode, you can enable DEP for all essential programs and services except those you specifically exclude. If DEP is configured AlwaysOn or AlwaysOff, you can’t change the performance options.
