JSI Tip 3435. How do I troubleshoot a 'STOP 0x00000051 REGISTRY ERROR' in Windows 2000?

3435 » How do I troubleshoot a 'STOP 0x00000051 REGISTRY ERROR' in Windows 2000? 05-Mar-01

This BSOD is the result of a registry or Configuration Manager problem.

The error can be caused by an I/O error during reading a registry hive or by a hardware or file system problem.

To resolve the issue:

- Run CHKDSK to verify/fix any files system problems.

- Try booting to the Last Known Good configuration.

- Use tip 3200 to recover your system.

- If you just added new hardware, remove it. Check the HCL.

- If you just installed Windows 2000, make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements and that your BIOS is current.
