Intel Takes Server to the Core: Desktops, Notebooks Next

This week, Intel released a new generation of Xeon server microprocessors based on the Core architecture. The Xeon 5100 chips offer about twice the performance of the chips they're replacing while consuming 40 percent less power. These chips, dubbed Core 2 Duo, will feature two processor cores and will replace all of Intel's current-generation mainstream processors.
