Q. How can I clean hidden data and notes from Microsoft Office documents?

A. I often create presentations and documents that contain my speaker notes and other private information. If I want to share the content, I first want to remove any hidden or private information. Fortunately, Microsoft Office 2007 does this pretty much automatically.

  1. Open the document in you want to clean in an Office program.
  2. From the Office menu (top left corner) select Prepare and Inspect Document, as shown here.

  3. Select the types of information you want to check and click Inspect, as shown here.

  4. The results will be displayed. For any item that contains data you don't want, click the Remove All button, shown here.

  5. Once you're finished, click Close.
