As many IT pros can attest, a growing IT infrastructure presents challenges. Steve Greenberg, the IT security manager for Frontier Airlines, found himself facing an infrastructure of mismatched firewalls and other security products from a variety of vendors. “We wanted to consolidate and move to a more robust set of security products as we continued to grow,” says Greenberg. “Consolidation is good, and we took advantage of that consolidation to standardize on a limited number of security products.”

The firewall that Greenberg standardized on was Secure Computing’s Secure Firewall, chosen partly for its impressive performance under attack during a hacking challenge conducted at a recent Black Hat security expo. “I remember people trying to hack that firewall, and nobody was able to deface the protected Web server or get to any files on the network,” says Greenberg. “That definitely got my attention.”

Installation and configuration of Secure Firewall initially gave Greenberg pause, as the sheer number of options and features made configuring the product a bit overwhelming. At first, Greenberg thought he’d need on-site help from Secure Computing to complete the deployment. However, good technical support and additional training helped Frontier surmount the initial learning curve.
