As you know, the spiffy new iPhone requires that you use AT&T as your cell carrier of choice - that is unless you feel froggy enough to use a SIM reader/writer device to hack the phone's SIM card.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, and now it has. Someone who goes by the name Sassha posted step-by-step instructions on hacking iPhone's SIM card over at the HackintOsh Web forum.

Following the iPhone hacking is very interesting because as far as I know it's legal and Apple and AT&T might not be able to do a thing about it. You probably recall that last December the Library of Congress exempted cell phone unlocking from the anti-circumvention provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act -- even though AT&T's license agreement states that people aren't supposed to unlock their phones.

So basically iPhone hacking is about freedom of choice...

Check out Wired's story about iPhone's 17,000 word license agreement.
