A. I recently had this same problem and also had similar problems in which the application was installed but would hang when it tried to start. The most common cause is a graphics card that uses the NVIDIA chipset. One workaround is to turn off all hardware acceleration. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Display Control Panel applet (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display).
  2. Select the Settings tab and click the Advanced button.
  3. Select the Troubleshoot tab.
  4. Set the "Hardware acceleration" to None and click OK to all open dialog boxes. The actual resolution, however, is to use the latest NVIDIA drivers (version 84.21 or above), which you can download from http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21 .
