Boot Camp. More than 75 percent of readers gave Mountain View Systems'
Windows Server 2003 MCSE Boot Camp the highest grade. Its popularity is partially
due to instructor James Carrion, the Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine
columnist who leads this 20-day training program. Boot camp graduates speak
highly of Carrion. Daniel Schoening of Harley-Davidson notes that, "James was
100 percent knowledgeable of the subject matter, could answer any question,
and lead me through to a successful MCSE. Totally the best training I have ever
participated in." Boot camp graduates earn not only the MCSE certification but
also the MCSE: Security, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MSCA), and
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certifications.

Instructor-Led Training. According to Windows IT Pro readers, Mountain
View Systems offers the best instructor-led training. Besides offering the Windows
Server 2003 MCSE Boot Camp (which won the Best Boot Camp award), Mountain View
Systems offers instructor led training in a variety of other areas. The instructor-led
training programs include a 6-day course on how to plan for and implement a
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 system and a 7-day course to help attain the
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. "The environment is
well thought-out to provide the students with the absolute preeminent place
to obtain your certification," says Thom Pritchett, CCNA course participant.
"The instructors are certified professionals who sense the students' ability
to absorb information and adjust the schedule accordingly."

Web-Based Training. With nearly 60 percent of Windows IT Pro readers'
votes, Transcender's TranscenderCert practice exams with e-Learning courses
takes top honors in the Web-Based Training award competition. Transcender has
partnered with Thomson NETg to deliver e-Learning courses to customers. Like
the TranscenderCert practice exams, the e-Learning courses are self-paced and
available when you have time to work on them. TranscenderCert practice exams
with e-Learning courses are available for many certification areas, including
the MCSE, MCSE: Messaging, MCSE: Security, and Microsoft Certified Application
Developer (MCAD) certifications. If instructor-led, classroom-based training
isn't feasible because of time or budget constraints, TranscenderCert practice
exams with e-Learning courses is a practical alternative.
This is absolutely the worst IT company I've ever dealt with, regardless of the company catagory. HORRIBLE. The arrangements of the class where a lie - we were supposed to be in the Residence Inn, instead they never made reservations, so we ended up in a horrible dump hotel with tiny rooms. It never got any better, even though they eventually did get into the R.I. (and made it sound like they did us a favor).
The meat of it, the instruction, was dismal. The training computers were so old and slow, it truly wasn't worth the bother. The instructor was far below par, and far worse than any other I've ever had, and this course was not cheap. He was unresponsive to questions, seldom stayed late to help students, frequently belittled students who asked "dumb" questions, yet let others drivvle on and on about their mostly irrelevant scenarios. He just didn't lead the class very well either.
I did manage to pass - largely due to the highly illegal brain dump practice exams they wrote for use to use. Running on a server via ASP pages, you couldn't take a copy with you (of course!), but the "practice tests" VERY closely emulated the actual exam questions - a no no in this industry. I mean, company names, scenarios, questions and answers. When I took the exams, I literally new the answer because I had seen the question before. It really was that much of an exam rip.
Heck, I walked out an MCSE, and I had NEVER INSTALLED AD, Never created/implemented a group policy (and didn't know how). I wouldn't have been able to tell you the basic tool to use for most of that stuff. Basically, I was disfunctional as an actual MCSE, I just regurgitated test answers. Total paper MCSE. Something I abhor in the industry.
