A. Although Windows XP Professional Edition and XP Home both ship with NTBackup, only XP Pro installs NTBackup by default. You can install NTBackup for XP Home by performing the following steps:

Insert the XP Home CD-ROM.
Navigate to the VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP folder.
Double-click the ntbackup.msi file to install NTBackup.

What about those of us who bought HP Pavilions where the OS is hidden on the hard disk, and weren't given any CDs and the backup folder isn't available?

What about us who have SONY VAIOS with SYSTEM RESTORE CDs but no XP INSTALATION CSDs.

It seems that those of us with HP machines are welcome to purchase a CD with the program for $2.00 if we pay shipping of almost $13.00. What's wrong with this picture? Microsoft distributes the ValueAdd CD as part of its package. Why should we have to pay extra to HP which theoretically supplies the same programs as Microsoft!?

I have an Acer System back up disk only, and cannot navigate to the XP back up file - I think this is a cheap mney saving trick, and intend taking it up with the company who sold me the laptop - has anybody found a way round this problem?

I, too, have a Toshiba laptop that came with XP Home preinstalled and no XP disk provided. Is there any way I can get ntbackup?

NTBackup is not available on the DVD of my pre-installed Windows-XP System bought in FNAC in France.
Do you know how I can get it easily through the Web.

I have an OEM version of WinXP Home edition. I have searched high and low both on and off the internet. The NTBACKUP file cannot be found. If anyone find this file, can you send it to me? or point me to the right direction. I can't even find this file on my winXP pro version. It's there but in a compressed format.
