A. Windows NT 4.0 group policies were all .adm file based and even the new Windows 2000 Group Policy has a large Administrative Template area that still uses .adm files. Stefan Furtmayr has compiled this great list of useful .adm files:

Internet Explorer:

- install the Administration Kit (http://www.eu.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/)

- start IE download (completing is not necessary!)

- "C:\Program Files\IEAK5_5\policies" -> axaa.adm, conf.adm, inetcorp.adm, inetres.adm, inetset.adm, oe.adm, sp1shell.adm, subs.adm, wmp.adm

Office XP:

Office XP Resource Kit / Maintenance / Using System Policies: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/two/admb01.htm

Office XP Resource Kit / Toolbox / Tools: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/appndx/appa18.htm

Office 2000:

Included in the Resource Kit

(http://www.eu.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/download/ORKTools.exe):

ACCESS9.ADM, CLIPGAL5.ADM, EXCEL9.ADM, FRONTPG4.ADM, INSTLR1.ADM, OFFICE9.ADM, OUTLK9.ADM, PPOINT9.ADM, PUB9.ADM, WORD9.ADM -> gets installed in "C:\Winnt\Inf"

Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit Toolbox: http://www.eu.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm

Office Resource Kit Readme file: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/download/Readme.doc

Office 97:

Included in http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/download/SetupPol.exe:

Access97.adm, (Common.adm), Off97nt4.adm, Off97w95.adm, Outlk97.adm, Query97.adm, TypeLib.adm, (Windows.adm, Winnt.adm)

Netmeeting:

Included in Resource Kit

(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/NetMeeting/Corp/reskit/): conf.adm -> not needed because also included in Internet Explorer Resource Kit

Window 95/98: on CD as admin.adm

The version of Poledit in that directory can only load one policy template, so use the one from an extracted Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack (run "sp6i386.exe /x").

Windows NT 4.0:

common.adm, winnt.adm (C:\Winnt\Inf)
