Thanks to Piethein Strengholt for forwarding a list of the bug fixes and changes in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2). This collection of fixes, which is due to ship in Q1 2001, is the second such release from Microsoft since Windows 2000 debuted in February 2000. Microsoft has pledged to refrain from introducing new features in its service packs, and SP2 appears to continue to this trend.

I have a M720 (pcchips) with a dual PII 233 MHz (APIC inserted). Windows 2000 Pro works good but get yellow-flag on Host Controller 82371 AB/EB PCI to USB. I've installed a VIA USB PCI card in a PCI slot to rescue my USB devices. How can I fix the problem on my M720? I've updated to BIOS to the latest delivered but the strange firmware problem persists. The problem happened in MPS mode while in Uniprocessor one the firmware was good enough to work.

Suggestion?

Nick, You might want to check out Intel's website (www.intel.com) and download their latest INF installer package (version 2.80) search for chipset and locate your 440LX chipset. This may solve the problem your having with the USB. I had a similar problem to yours and the INF installer fixed my problem.

Hey, I don't know if anyone else has had this happen, but when I installed this SP it came up w/ an error of cannot copy NTLDR from the DIR. Well I checked the DIR and the file was there. I also had windows BU the previous config. Guess what it corrupted the kernel. Setup gives you these options, 1: cancel install and revert to the previous. Which it cannot do for the same above listed error. 2: skip that file and continue. That doesn't work either b/c when you reboot the system halts. Nice fix. I used the network ver of the SP to be sure I got it all. Which as it turns out isn't worth it. Don't waste your time trying to repair W2K either taht doesn't work. It's doesn't remember the admin PW and the other option for repair does nothing.

Jeff? I had the same error "cannot copy the file ntldr" when installing w2k SP4. It turned out the pc user had changed the security rights on the system drive. Giving only full control to his own account instead of everyone. I changed it back and the SP installation now completed succesfully.
