A. You can change where the My Documents and My Pictures shortcuts point to by performing the following steps:

  1. Start regedit.exe.
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.
  3. Double-click Personal (for My Documents) and change the value.
  4. Double-click My Pictures and change the value.
  5. Close regedit.
  6. Log off and restart the machine for the change to take effect.

You can also redirect these folders using a Group Policy Object (GPO)--look under User Configuration, Windows Settings, Folder Redirection. Right-click a folder, and select its redirection.

Another method to move the My Documents is as follows:

  1. On the Desktop right click the The My Documents Folder Icon
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click Move, and select your new location

Everything is moved automatically, including the My Picture Reference.

the redirection using GPO only works if its on a domain PO and not a local GPO
is there a way to set that on a local GPO?

Just great! Had I have had this info 3 days ago, headaches would have been avoided. Had partiationed my drive, and wanted "My pictures" to another drive. Unable to,I went back to a single partition, then the fun began - finally got all OK, but a mess for me!

Good place for info!
