Readers are invited to British developer-group VBUG's annual convention next week, Windows IT Pro's Power Up with SQL Server web conference next month and an exclusive workshop to discuss migration from Oracle next year.

UK developer group VBUG's biggest event of the year touches down at Microsoft's UK headquarters in Reading next Thursday, November 26. Windows IT Pro's Power Up with SQL Server web conference for EMEA takes place on December 3. And Unisys is inviting execs to an exclusive workshop in London in February 2010 that will examine the ramifications of moving to a complete SQL Server environment across the enterprise.

VBUG's annual conference features five compelling presentations and non-members are welcome. Sessions include David Ringsell's introduction to WPF for students of the .NET 3 Framework, a seminar on refactoring by Gary Short, a look at concurrency using functional patterns in C# by Oliver Sturm and a Windows Mobile Device workshop run by Tony Whitter. For further lowdown and registration see the VBUG website.

Regular readers will already know about Windows IT Pro's Power Up with SQL Server EMEA web conference which starts at 10am UK time/11am European Summer Time on Thursday, December 3. The conference addresses database performance, virtualisation and high availability and is sponsored by Idera, Neverfail and Xkoto.

Australian SQL Server MVP Greg Low will kick off proceedings with "Understanding Query Plan Caching in SQL Server". Prolific Windows IT Pro contributor and fellow MVP Niels Berglund will also host sessions on SQL Server high availability and performance tuning. Attendance is free. For the full agenda and registration see the Power Up with SQL Server EMEA website.

Windows IT Pro, Unisys and Microsoft are inviting higher-level IT execs running Oracle on Unix and considering the switch to a total SQL Server environment to a special half-day workshop in February, 2010.

"Transforming the Data Tier – A Business Value Approach to Migrating Unix-based Oracle Databases to a Consolidated Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Environment" will be held at Microsoft's London Victoria site on an as-yet unconfirmed date.

Full details, including a mystery star guest speaker, are yet to be released and places are strictly limited to this exclusive but free-to-attend event. To make an early bid for seat, email the organisers at Windows IT Pro by hitting this link: Send me more info on this event.
