Microsoft won't release any security bulletins this month, which of course means some administrators get a reprieve, however other administrators and beta testers of Microsoft patches might have some extra work to do. Microsoft had indicated that it would release one security bulletin in September, however problems were discovered in the scheduled patch. As a result the company changed course deciding not to release the patch until it meets quality control standards. Microsoft did release an updated version of its malicious software removal tool , which now removes variants of Bobax, Esbot, Gael, Yaha and Zotob.

If you had problems with the installation of Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 then you might want to make room in your patching schedule. A spokesperson for Microsoft said that the company re-released the update rollup to correct various problems with its installation. Microsoft also updated its article, "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 and Known Issues" with additional information. Interestingly enough, some users report that they cannot access the download page for the rollup package when using Firefox Web browser.
